Men Beware Women

December 1, 2011

Two terrible Graun articles to report on briefly today- as leta who sent one in said, they didn’t involve much effort so neither will this -one by Julie Bindel, the other, Lucy Mangan.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/shortcuts/2011/nov/30/women-dating-men-behind-bars#start-of-comments

Julie Bindel kindly warns those poor heterosexual sisters of hers to ‘beware’ men who are in prison, they may happen to fall in love with. once again it creates a binary between women – good, men -bad, women- victims, men- predators. And really, of course, the message is not beware men behind bars at all, but simply ‘women beware men’.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/shortcuts/2011/nov/30/women-need-sheds-more-men?INTCMP=SRCH

Lucy Mangan presents what seems like a spoof article but isnt- about women’s rights to have sheds as men do. There is an organisation in Australia that supports men’s ‘health and wellbeing’ through a network of men with sheds.  But Lucy is not happy with this state of affairs and stamps her feet like a toddler crying ‘WAAAAHHH it’s NOT FAIIIR’ . ‘WHATABOUTTEHWIMMIN?’

If this was an article about a women’s support organisation and someone responded as Lucy has done there’d be uproar from Feminism HQ and cries of ‘whatabouttehmenz’.

Also Mangan argues that women need sheds more because women do most domestic work and are more stressed from looking after husbands, family etc. This reeks of the martyr complex to me, as typhon blue over at QRG BLOG described it. Almost as if women use their domestic labour and ‘caring’ roles as a weapon against those lazy, selfish oafs men.

I have long said that feminism is often focused on women gaining power in the outside world, but without giving any up in the home. They want their cake and to eat it too.

I call bullshit once again on this nasty, lazy Graun feminism.

I’m going to my shed.

So, there are currently 20 whole sheds in the UK? Wow, what a massive number for a population numbering 63 millions, roughly half of which are the target group of this. It is incredible how angsty people get when even a tiny sum of money isn’t spend on the giant apparatus that women’s support has turned into.

Also, did you know that Graun is written and pronounced almost similar to the German word Grauen, which translates into terror or horror? :D

I was reading the Jeremy Clarkson should apologise threads and looked back at the Lucy Mangan Article.
It feels like there is something wrong with the world and i can’t put my finger on it.

leta – much as I like Top Gear (think of it as ‘Jackass with added supercar porn’), I’m fed up with Clarkson’s bullying routine. Mangan’s piece was petty and wrong, but also symptomatic of what happens when even men’s issues are filtered through their (supposed) impact on women, who of course (as any fule kno) have it worse under any and all circumstances.

PS: Gail Dines has an article in CiF claiming that feminist reasons to object to porn are better than other people’s reasons. This from the woman who told Slutwalkers to put some decent clothes on, and from a movement, a significant part of which seems quite happy to bully other women about what they should get their rocks off to. (So, Ms Dines, why exactly did Catherine MacKinnon testify to Reagan’s anti-porn committee?)

I am not a defender of clarkson at all. I am not even suggesting the guardian make a massive apology. Just a small little we will try and be more careful in the future would be nice.
